A background of personal failures, and empty dreams, brought Phillip to a place in 1991 that led him to surrender completely to the Lord. Receiving salvation and the call to ministry simultaneously, he quickly poured himself into finding God’s plan and direction for his life. Trying to walk in spiritual shoes that didn’t fit, brought him to the realization that he was not an evangelist, and a short gig as a youth ministry leader likewise eliminated any ideas that he was called to work as a youth pastor. The desire and longing of his heart soon became clear. He had a call to discipleship ministry and to the training of dedicated followers of Christ.
While serving as a Pastor in his first Church, he soon realized that the call on his life was not a match with the heart or the focus of that small congregation, but he knew that God still had a plan. Two years passed, although it seemed like twenty, before God would reveal the open door that he was waiting for. That open door was a two year Bible School training facility in Lindale, TX. After two years of training, he graduated from the International College of Missions in 2003 and stepped immediately into the role of Pastor of their affiliate Church, the Church of Living Hope, in nearby Tyler.
Persuaded that he still needed training in order to fulfill the call of training disciples, he continued pursuing further education. Phillip earned a Bachelor’s Degree in 2004, a Master’s Degree in 2005, and was awarded a Doctor of Ministry degree in 2008. So, with a Pastors heart, and the ministry gift of a “Teacher” – he continues to Pastor at the Church of Living Hope, is an instructor at Calvary Commission’s International Center of Mission, and teaches Bachelor level
Bible College courses as an affiliate of Vision International Education Network.
Joy continues to fill the role of Pastor’s wife, excelling in areas of ministry that Phillip is not gifted in. She is the real hands-on pastor, but leaves most of the teaching part to Phillip.
Krysta is an accomplished keyboard player and worship leader, and has a heart to pursue missions as an English teacher in Romania. Kayla leads worship for the youth group, does well with the piano and is rapidly learning to play the guitar. Hannah, the youngest, is doing well with the flute, and is beginning to teach herself the piano. You can see that the entire family is involved in ministry.
Knowing that there are innumerable people and places where God is moving and working to change lives, the family remains faithful to the call, and open to further ministry expansion in the future. The call to train and disciple will never cease, maybe the next step will be to expand the same call beyond our borders. In God’s time, and with Living Hope.
