Our Director, Joe Fauss, began ministry to Cuba in 1994 and continued being provided a Religious Visa. He was able to train and certify Cuban ministers to serve as chaplains in jails, prisons, and hospitals. A great need was discovered with aging pastors. We call them the Heroes. Due to the incredible pressures of ministry and the overall tough conditions these heroes face, on their 70th birthday they retire, allowing a younger pastor to Shepherd the church. Since the church is not financially able to support the new pastor, his family and the retired minister simultaneously, and with no retirement assistance programs available, the combination creates a real problem. Calvary Commission began a project to assist them.
Who is your hero? A sports figure? Military personnel? Family member or friend? Law enforcement officer? True, these may be heroic in their own rights,… yet there is another champion alive today. Just 90 miles off the coast of the United States, is our Caribbean neighbor—Cuba. On this island of intrigue, resides real life heroes :Retired Cuban Ministers. Through the years, these pioneers have preached, prayed, and persevered… helping shape the spiritual climate of Cuba today. As a result, thousands of people have been saved, delivered and given hope. We call it Hope For Your Future. Our coordinator tells of some of these:
“He was Bible student with my parents at the seminary in 1953. He was the cook for the school. Was the cook of the staff. He was the founder and pastor of several churches and a member of the Executive Committee of the Assemblies of God in Cuba. He and his wife have two sons who are also in the ministry and they belong to the Executive Committee of their respective districts. For me, it is a joy to see them receive the care that God provides through the sponsors of this program”
“This family that came from the Cayman Islands, south of Cuba. They were the founders of a Christian organization and after the death of their father, they associated to with the Assemblies of God, where they have continued for four years until now they are at the age of inability to pastor. He is now very sick and needs medicines that are very expensive but he needs them to take care of his health.
The good news is, you can help! For a mere $20.00 per month these Heroes can have their daily provisions met. Will you adopt a hero for $20 per month? It’s the little things we do that make a big difference.
